Amanda Porter

Amanda Porter is a new artist whose work transcends traditional portraiture.  Her compelling images document people in every day activities and enable the viewer to see the world as the subject sees it and view their emotions. It has been said that her photography brings back a style seen in Time & Life from the 50’s -60’s.

She discovered her love for photography during college when taking photography and psychology classes.  It was then that she decided to meld the two passions in her life, photography and social and behavioral psychology, into her compositions.  “When I am shooting, I view the world around me from many perspectives, many times through the eyes of the subject.  What motivates another being is forever intriguing”.

Porter wants to capture people in their day to day life routine and activities - capturing on film our expressions, interactions, when we don’t feel anyone is looking, therefore, her photos involving people are shot in “real life”. “I shoot what speak to me emotionally.”   The “meaning” of each piece, I leave to the individual viewer.

Porter’s work is done in traditional black and white photography and uses the traditional photographic technique.  Her work may best be described as “lifestyle” photography.  Her images range from New York and Los Angeles culture and landscapes to European culture and landscapes.

Porter is a graduate of Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Affairs and Corporate Communications.  She currently resides in Los Angeles, CA.
